Carmi-White County senior running back Blake Renshaw is among the four candidates for the weekly "Hometown MVP of the Week" award from Evansville, Ind. television station WEHT.Renshaw was nominated for his role in the Bulldogs' 22-13 victory last Saturday over previously unbeaten Red Hill in the Class 2A playoffs. In that game, the CWC single-season rushing leader accumulated 136 yards and a touchdown on the ground, and also caught a 41-yard TD pass from quarterback Clay Kittinger.The award is voted on by the general public. InterMedia Partners to purchase Puerto Rican television station ...

New York-based private equity firm InterMedia Partners has agreed to acquire WAPA-TV, a television station located in San Juan, Puerto Rico, for $130m in cash from LIN TV Corp. WAPA-TV is one of three national broadcasters in Puerto Rico. As part of the purchase, InterMedia will also be acquiring WJPX-TV, which is programmed as MTV Puerto Rico; and WAPA America, a US cable and satellite channel targeting Hispanics. Alan Sokol, former chief operating officer of Telemundo and a senior investment partner at InterMedia, said, 'Puerto Rico is a unique broadcast television market with great tradition and tremendous potential. As the leader in news and original programming, WAPA represents a wonderful media growth opportunity, both within Puerto Rico and as a platform to reach Hispanics in the continental United States.' Russia cargo ship docks at space station

Russian Mission Control experts on Thursday succeeded in latching a cargo ship securely onto the international space station, after an initial failure to complete the docking, an official said. "The repeat attempt to hook up the ship with the station has been a success," Mission Control spokesman Valery Lyndin told The Associated Press. Lyndin said that Mission Control experts, working by radio command, moved the Progress about 16 inches back and then attempted to latch it firmly onto the station again. "The crew has confirmed that the attempt was successful and the ship has been latched on securely onto the station," he told the AP. The cargo ship was bringing some 2.5 tons of supplies to the station's crew, but they were unable to unload the goods until the problem was fixed....

Sale of Birmingham television station WIAT finalized

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Media General announced today it has finalized the sale of television station W-I-A-T, a C-B-S affiliate in Birmingham. Richmond, Virginia-based Media General said the deal to sell the station and K-I-M-T in Mason City, Iowa, to New Vision Television of Atlanta for 37 (m) million dollars was completed. The sale was announced on August first. Jason Elkin, chairman and chief executive officer of New Vision, said the two stations represent the first two stations of New Vision Television Three. The company expects to expand to up to 12 stations over the next year. New Vision, founded in 1993 by Elkin, is financed by Dallas-based H-B-K Investments, which has about ten (b) billion dollars in equity capital under management. Copyright 2006 Associated Press....

DETROIT, Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Gas Station TV, the IP-based digital television network, today announced results of a new study by Nielsen Media Research that showed 77% of respondents looked at, watched or listened to GSTV while refueling at stations with the service. The study also revealed that 89% intend to "watch or listen to GSTV" upon their next station visit. GSTV is grabbing the mobile consumer's attention by delivering engaging, entertaining and informative content through 20-inch LCD TV screens embedded atop gas station pumps. The study was conducted by Nielsen Media Research's New Media Services at GSTV-equipped gas stations in the greater Dallas market. Results from the study also showed that advertising brand recall averaged an extremely high 40%. "This pilot study certainly demonstrates that people will watch and value GSTV as they pump their gas," said Beth Corbett, Vice President, Nielsen Media Research....

American millionairess boards space station

KOROLEV, Russia -- The first ever female space tourist, Anousheh Ansari of the United States, settled into the International Space Station (ISS) on Wednesday for a multi-million dollar cosmic holiday. Ansari, whose Soyuz spacecraft safely docked with the ISS after completing its journey from Earth, will spend the next eight days on board with five professional astronauts. Ground control at Korolev, outside Moscow, showed live footage of Ansari and two astronauts who traveled with her entering the station and embracing the current occupants. Ansari, wearing a black baseball cap and a yellow shirt, smiled broadly as she entered the station. On Earth, space officials and Ansari's relatives applauded. "She made history. She's very lucky to have a great crew and she had great training," Hamid Ansari, her husband, told AFP when the Soyuz vessel docked....

South Bend's CBS affiliate to donate studios to PBS station

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Television station executives planning to erect new studios will donate their old studio space and equipment to a public television station. WSBT-TV, a CBS affiliate owned by Schurz Communications, is looking at a site in Mishawaka to build a replacement for the 30,000-square-foot studios the South Bend station has outgrown. When that space is vacated, it will be donated to WNIT, the area's public television station, which will move to the location sometime in 2009. "We won't turn the building over to them until we're ready to vacate," said Marci Burdick, senior vice president-broadcasting at Schurz Communications. WNIT will renovate the building to meet its needs before it moves 39 employees from Elkhart to South Bend, said Mary Pruess, the station's president and general manager....

Jacques Natz will join Hearst- Argyle Television, Inc. as Director of Digital Media Content. A veteran news director at some of the nation's top television stations, Natz previously was News Director at WTHR-TV, the NBC affiliate in Indianapolis. The appointment, effective October 2, was announced today by Terry Mackin, Executive Vice President, who heads Hearst-Argyle's digital media initiatives. In his new role, Natz will oversee digital content for Hearst-Argyle's various digital-media businesses, including the company's local websites and its Weather Plus digital television channels developed in partnership with NBC. Natz will work closely with Hearst-Argyle partner Internet Broadcasting (IB) and the Hearst-Argyle TV station news directors to expand local content on the Company's web sites....

WESH hires Milwaukee news director to replace Trauschke

WESH-Channel 2 on Tuesday named a Milwaukee broadcasting executive as its news director, replacing Ed Trauschke, whom the station dropped Friday. Barbara Maushard will meet the WESH staff today and join the station Sept. 5. She is news director at Milwaukee's WISN-Channel 12, which like WESH is owned by Hearst-Argyle Television. During her six years at WISN, the station won the Peabody Award for investigative reporting. "She is passionate and has tremendous leadership skills," said Bill Bauman, WESH general manager. "Everyone describes her as inspirational." Maushard is moving from Milwaukee, the nation's No. 33 market, to Orlando, which is No. 20. "This is a great opportunity," she said. "This is a television station with tremendous talent and great resources....

L.A.'s Only Country Music Station Closes

This was the week that country music died in Los Angeles. After more than 20 years on the air, the city's only country music station, KZLA-FM, abruptly left the air Thursday and was seamlessly replaced with the rhythmic pop of "Movin' 93.9," which plays artists such as Beyonce, Janet Jackson and Jennifer Lopez. KZLA's sudden and unannounced demise leaves America's two most populous cities, Los Angeles and New York, without country music stations. In Los Angeles, longtime country fans and station employees wondered at the logic of ending country radio in their city, which ranks in the top two for album sales and where concerts for big-name country artists repeatedly sell out. The station's last day coincided with opening night of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill's "Soul II Soul" concert....
