| Waiting his turn | | Posted Wednesday, November 08, 2006 11:26:35 AM by Blog57 Team | | Of all the Hollywood hopefuls who dream of becoming a late-night talk show host, John Henson is so dogged that once, while hosting "Talk Soup," which satirized daily talk shows, he announced that he would not eat until Dustin Hoffman appeared on his program. Of course, it was only a mock hunger strike, which Henson schmaltzed up with his own death scene. Still, the ploy worked: Hoffman got word of Henson's antics, showed up on the set, and on the way even called his pal Jon Lovitz, who was in the shower and said he'd be right over, too. That was nine years ago, a good year for Henson: He ranked as the "sultan of sarcasm" among People magazine's 40 most fascinating TV stars of 1997. Dustin Hoffman says so Now, as executive producer, head writer and host of "Watch This," a show on the TV Guide Channel that critiques what's on television, Henson is still vying for that coveted late-night gig.... | |

Since he started collecting vacuums at age 3, his growing collection accumulated to 126 when he received his favorite vacuum cleaner as a gift during his Sept. 27 appearance on The Megan Mullally Show. Krichbaum said Mullally presented him with a Riccar as a surprise gift, which he claims is the best vacuum. It's neat looking, too, just a great vacuum. On the show, Krichbaum presented some of his favorite vacuums to Mullally and her audience, and demonstrated how to change a vacuum belt within seconds. I just love vacuums. I don't know what is about them, Krichbaum said. In early September, producers from The Megan Mullally Show contacted Krichbaum's home after consulting with Larry Krug of the National Association of Collectors, requesting some contact information on a child with a unique collection, his mother, MaryLynn, said....

Bush and his Republicans to pull off a surprise and maintain control of Congress in Nov. 7 elections. In the face of opinion polls favoring Democrats and bad news from Iraq, Bush turned to the powerful hosts of talk radio two weeks before Americans elect 435 representatives to the U.S. House and a third of the 100-member Senate. On Tuesday the White House invited more than three dozen hosts from both sides of the political spectrum so they could interview top administration officials. Radio personalities and programs play a political role in many countries. In America, they have become largely a powerful ally for conservatives, even as the rise of Internet blogs has broadened the spectrum of voter voices being heard....

But in the midst of these enthusiastic fans lurk a few bad seeds coined "dysfunctional" fans, according to research conducted by Dr. Kirk Wakefield, associate professor for sports, sponsorship and sales. Wakefield researched the "dysfunctionality" of fans at college sporting events in collaboration with Dr. Daniel Wann, a Murray State University professor of psychology. When Wakefield began his research, he said he thought everybody seemed like an average, excited sports fan. By the end, Wakefield and Wann said they realized that "these people are really dysfunctional." Wakefield asked participants to respond to comments such as "I can't help but complain when there is something wrong related to the (home) team," or, "I have had confrontations with others at games when I voiced my opinion."
