RAJ TV to set up state-of-the-art studio in Chennai

Chennai, Oct 12: Prominent Tamil satellite channel Raj TV is coming up with a state-of-the-art studio in Chennai.The studio,which will come up in a space of 9000 sq feet at an initial investment of Rs.7.5 crore, will comprise audience galleries and compact air-conditioned studios for hosting various programmes.In the first phase,a digital and physical studio, and a library would be set up, a press release from the television channel said."With our own set up in operation, we expect to cut down our production costs by 40 percent," M Raveendran, Director, said.He said the channel would also look at opportunities to provide the services of their studio facilities to other television channels.The release added that the channel was planning to launch new programmes like game shows and music shows....

The final two episodes (for the foreseeable future) of WWE Presents Madison Square Garden Classics will air this Wednesday on the MSG Network, starting at 8pm. As previously reported, the first episode will feature matches from the December 26, 1983 card, including The Iron Sheik's WWF World Title win over Bob Backlund. The second hour will feature matches from the January 27, 1986 Garden event, including WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage. Sabido's majority shareholder is Hosken Consolidated Investments, a trade-union controlled black empowerment company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. e.sat intends to provide a unique subscription television broadcasting service to middle income South Africans who are presently under-served by subscription television. It will do so by providing a predominantly locally-compiled programming service which includes movie, news and sports channels. e.tv has a proven track record as a successful commercial television broadcaster in the South African market. DENVER - Satellite TV provider EchoStar Communications Corp. said Monday it has reached a $100 million settlement with affiliate associations of three major networks over distant-programming service but has been unable to resolve differences with Fox Network. The agreement could end a nine-year lawsuit over the Dish Network operator's practice of selling programming from ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox stations that originates in one market to subscribers who live in a different city. It still must be approved by a judge in Florida, where the suit is pending. ....

WASHINGTON -- A partnership of the two top satellite television companies that qualified as the top potential bidders in the federal government's airwaves auction had all but dropped out of the competition by the close of bidding Tuesday. Wireless DBS LLC, a partnership between EchoStar Communications Corp. and the DirecTV Group Inc., was the top qualifier for the auction, posting a $972.5 million deposit. Due to inactivity, the partnership's eligibility to bid on licenses shrunk dramatically. "I think the prices just got too high for them," said Tim Farrar, president of Telecom, Media and Finance Associates Inc., who has been tracking the auction closely. The auction, which is expected to bring in between $10 billion and $15 billion to the government, got under way Aug....

That's why the satellite and cable television industries have built alliances to bid on wireless spectrum at the current FCC auction, so as to bring their own brands to the forefront of the highly profitable cellular phone business, and make gains in wireless broadband to boot. Three of America's leading cable companies, Time Warner, Comcast, and Cox Communications, have formed an alliance to bid on spectrum, probably with the ultimate intention of rolling out their own nationwide mobile phone network....
