Unlike today, there were so many new and original things going on. Everything these days seems recycled. Even war. ....

"Any cooperation, participation in programs, placing advertisements, interviews and joint production of programs is prohibited and will be prosecuted," Iran's conservative culture ministry said in a statement carried by ISNA. The ministry said the ban was issued because of the "illegal activity and the irreverent content of foreign based Persian-language TV channels". | | | Arab TV channels not aware of India’s new rules | | Posted Thursday, August 10, 2006 5:32:23 PM by Blog57 Team | | Arabia, a prominent Arab channel, which went off the air in India, recently, claimed yesterday that they were not aware about the new registration rules set by Indian Government for downlinking the International TV channels. Speaking to Khaleej Times, Jihad Ballout, official spokesperson of Al Arabia TV said "We are not aware about any registration rules set by Indian government. But, if that is the case and the Arabic channels went off the air in India, we as a responsible organisation respect the decision of the Indian government. We will look into the registration norms and if it is viable for us it would be great to expand our reach to India." Ballout said he is not aware about any ban on Arabic channels imposed in India. However, he noted: if the Arabic channels are banned in India following political pressure from Israel and US as the Arab News report suggests, we will appeal to the Indian government to re-consider their decision to allow freedom of expression....

| | | China to Punish Those Showing Banned Ads | | Posted Friday, August 04, 2006 11:11:46 AM by Blog57 Team | | Chinese television stations are still showing advertisements for weight loss, breast enlargement and other beauty products despite a temporary ban and will be punished, the official Xinhua News Agency said Thursday. The ban, introduced earlier this month and effective Aug. 1, was imposed because of fears that such ads violate consumer's rights and endanger their health. Even so, a dozen provincial TV stations have continued giving airtime to the ads, which introduce the medical products but give no details of manufacturers or distributors, Xinhua said. "Such advertisements have broken the rules," an unnamed official with the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television was quoted as saying by Xinhua. Those who ignore the ban will receive a notice from SARFT, he said.... | |

| | | Zambia: African Television Music Channels | | Posted Saturday, July 29, 2006 9:12:40 PM by Blog57 Team | | The advent of 24-hour music channels in the western world made significant changes to the way music is marketed. The introduction of MTV and eventually VH1 meant that music was no longer sold exclusively through the song but also and through vision. Suddenly, how the artistes looked was just as important as how they sounded. It spelt doom for many artistes who, although musically talented, could not carve out an appealing image visually. The best example of this demise was an artiste called Chris Cross. He won the Grammy (the world's premier music critical awards) for best new artiste in 1979. He however, came up at the dawn of the video age. His plump acne looking face did not fit the new format and he slowly slipped into oblivion. Appeal did not necessarily mean handsome or pretty.... | |
