Shopping for celebs

Blame it on Big B again. Ever since he revived his film career and rewrote the fate of a television channel by garnering fabulous TVRs in Kaun Banega Crorepati six years ago, life hasnt been the same. The soapbox has been intermittently deluged with a steady stream of stars from the cinematic galaxy doing serials, shows, and even judging them. Jog your memory: Hema Malini did Kamini Damini, Karisma Kapoor was in Karishma The Miracles Of Destiny, Raveena Tandon was the battered bibi in Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam and Sridevi used Malini Iyer as her comeback vehicle (all on Sahara One), Madhuri Dixit was in Kahin Na Kahin Koi Hai (Sony), Govinda anchored Jeeto Chhapad Phaad Ke (Sony), Manisha Koirala and Anupam Kher were in Sawaal Dus Crore Ka (Zee). Each one of these went down skid row. For actors, the lure of big bucks usually brings them to TV (never mind those smart lines on the challenges of a new medium that come from them); for the channels it is an attempt to create a flagship show (and a readymade celebrity name grabs instant attention)....

Emmy show to preview future TV stars
Posted Saturday, August 26, 2006 5:38:56 PM by Blog57 Team
With the Emmy Awards scheduled earlier than usual this year, the list of presenters looks more like a roster of coming attractions. Networks typically use the awards ceremony to put their hot properties front and center. So the usual mid-September airing provided some context for anyone playing "Name That Network Star." This time, when Conan OBrien hosts the awards at 8 p.m. Sunday on NBC, the shows featuring many of the actors joining him onstage will be awaiting their premieres. Unless youve carefully studied the new-series promos, you might wonder what Ray Liotta is doing at the Emmys. (Not that youd ask him directly, of course: He can do whatever he wants.) A few hints: Last year, Liotta was made a presenter because of his Emmy-winning guest role on ER. This year he stars in Smith, a new, serialized robbery drama with Virginia Madsen (Sideways) and Simon Baker (The Devil Wears Prada) that will premiere at 10 p.m....

Big Brother 7: All-Stars | tv : ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

Marcellas, you self-proclaimed bitter queen, you disappoint me. Of all the so-called all-stars who came into this house, you should have been the one who was most prepared to play this ridiculous game. You're the co-host of CBS.com's House Calls, a veritable BB think tank! You've studied every player since you were first booted from the house! And yet, you got snookered. Colossally. By the best player in BB history. You saw Will coming. You knew he was the man to beat. And yet you sat there looking dour and just...whined. No, first you ogled Kaysar and bathed with Janelle. Then you moped, whined, and said ridiculous things like ''scumbagging each other'' before going down with an embarrassing 6-0 vote. What happened, man? [Read Jessica Shaw's interview with Marcellas.] It's a question I'm going to have to save for later, just like the one I'd also like to ask Erika if I'm ever so lucky to run into her on the street (because it sure as hell ain't gonna happen in some L.A....

TV stars, Fiat heir, Bostrom take two-seater ride.

Former grand prix star Randy Mamola was a busy man at the US Grand Prix weekend - taking no less than thirteen lucky passengers around Laguna Seca on the back of the Ducati Desmosedici two seater. The passengers included TV stars and actors, an Olympian, a Fiat heir, a Motocross world champion and a current AMA Superbike star. Here's what each had to say after their once-in-a-lifetime experience: "Oh my God, that was awesome, just insane! It was the most terrifying thing but at the same time it was the safest I've ever felt on a motorcycle, if that makes sense!" - Actress Catherine Bell, from 'Bruce Almighty' and TV series 'JAG'. "Man, that was the most terrifying, most beautiful thing I've ever done in my life, except when my ass came up off the seat over Turn One! I felt like I was in a video game, but the amount of energy I expended over two laps was amazing, so I can't even begin to comprehend what it's like to actually control one of those things for 30 laps" - Sal Masekela, presenter of extreme sports TV show....
