With the help of the Norwood News archives, here's a look at what happened along the way. Early 1993 – Assemblyman Oliver Koppell secures $100,000 grant for the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corp. to study "potential for the development of a world-class sports facility to function as a regional sports and exhibition arena." (The study was never completed and funding was returned.) Nov. 1993 – Norwood News publishes a broad overview on armory situation. In anticipation of city inheriting landmark the following year, District 10 Superintendent John Reehill outlines his vision for "educational park," and Koppell champions a plan to convert the landmark into an amateur athletic facility....

| | | Spreadin' it Thicke | | Posted Monday, September 04, 2006 1:48:33 AM by Blog57 Team | | Alan Thicke didn't know his experience as a talk-show host would one day pay off in the world of soaps. Today and tomorrow, the actor/writer/producer will spoof his former gabfest self on the CBS soap The Bold And The Beautiful. He plays down and dirty TV interviewer Rich Ginger, who aggressively questions Donna Logan (Jennifer Gareis), Forrester Creations' sexy lead model and new face of the Brooke's Bedroom lingerie line. "He pushes to make something happen on the show," says Thicke about his character, "and doesn't back off easily. It's fun to play a role that's close to something I've done in the past." Thicke is referring to his two vastly different talk show experiences. In the early '80s, he gained great popularity hosting The Alan Thicke Show in Canada, but that led to his disastrous stint in the U.S.... | |

| | | Supervisors discuss Williamson Act, road impact fees | | Posted Tuesday, August 29, 2006 11:16:54 AM by Blog57 Team | | The Williamson Act provides tax breaks for farmers and ranchers who depend on their acreage to provide their income, but the state and the county are questioning the viability of some lands in the Williamson Act. The act allows parcels as small as 40 acres to receive tax breaks. In today's market, many feel that 40 acres is not enough land to create a livable income. "The foothills does not compare to the Valley," said Raymond rancher Ray Northrup. "You can't make a living on 40 acres." Supervisor Gary Gilbert agreed. "Any agricultural land above 500 feet in elevation," Gilbert said, "should be required to a minimum of 160 acres to be in the Williamson Act. I can't support this appeal today. I support the planning commissioner's decision." The question was brought up when Don English, of Raymond, requested an appeal of the Planning Commission's decision to deny his request to divide more than 227 acres into 40-acre parcels.... | |

| | | County celebrates new parking structure | | Posted Thursday, August 17, 2006 11:19:05 AM by Blog57 Team | | With the completion of Madera County's new, 130,000-square-foot, four-level parking structure, many of the parking difficulties in the downtown area that have been experienced during construction of the new county administration building will be alleviated. To commemorate the event, the board of supervisors held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the structure Friday morning. "This was literally dirt a few months ago," said Frank Bigelow, chairman of the board of supervisors. "It feels good to have this part complete." The 400-parking-stall structure officially opens Monday, ending the shuttle from Wal-Mart to Yosemite Avenue. Parking is free to the general public. The structure is handicap accessible, with elevator access and two staircases. "It was important to get the structure done as soon as possible, so as not to impact the community any longer than we had to," Bigelow said.... | |

| | | A rolling stone gathers no Moss | | Posted Friday, August 11, 2006 5:26:22 PM by Blog57 Team | | He's bold, he's beautiful, and he sings too. Actor Ronn Moss, who plays the chisel-jawed Ridge Forrester in The Bold and the Beautiful is eager to be known as a singer too. How has the journey been from a bass player in a succession of bands to an established actor? Long and laborious. Sometimes I miss the freedom I had before I had to become so responsible. Nineteen years as Ridge Forrester. Don't you feel stagnated at times? Absolutely. But that comes as part of the challenge of a job like this. It's only natural that there are times when we all feel dumpy about our characters or storylines. But then you pull yourself up and try and pull a rabbit out of a hat to make it all magically work. Is it the character Ridge Forrester that made people notice you as a singer or is it the singer Ronn Moss who became famous as an actor? I started out with music.... | |

Nineteen years as Ridge Forrester. Don't you feel stagnated at times? Absolutely. But that comes as part of the challenge of a job like this. With the sheer amount of material we have to come up with and film every year, it's only natural there are times when we all feel dumpy about our characters or storylines. But then you pull yourself up and try and pull a rabbit out of a hat to make it all magically work. Is it the character Ridge Forrester that made people realise your identity as a singer or is it the singer Ronn Moss who became famous as an actor? I started out with music. Since a very early age I was playing bass or guitar and singing in bands I formed....
