You can also puncture one of the kernels: If the liquid comes out milky, the corn is prime; if it comes out clear, it needs a couple more days. Once corn has been picked, it's best to eat or preserve it within 48 hours in order to enjoy the best flavor. Dried herbs To dry herbs, bundle several stems together and wrap a rubber band around the ends. Bend open the ends of a paper clip to form a hook and hang the herbs away from direct sunlight; drying should take two to four weeks. Scripps' popular cable TV networks. The move to offer Food-Network-branded kitchen products, tableware and linens next fall follows a recent Kohl's deal with designer Vera Wang and Macy's - a division of Cincinnati-based Federated Department Stores - deals with Oscar de la Renta, Martha Stewart and Elie Tahari. Its year-old foray into exclusive merchandise has helped the value-oriented Kohl's stores rebound from a 2004 sales slump. Exclusive merchandise - including the Ralph Lauren Chaps brand, Candies' shoes and apparel and four Estee Lauder makeup lines - now account for 8 percent of the soon-to-be 800-store chain's sales. Kohl's president Kevin Mansell says he hopes the 35 million viewers Food Network has each month will further boost sales in the stores' home goods departments.... | |

| | | LI-born brothers star in HGTV show | | Posted Friday, September 15, 2006 3:16:23 AM by Blog57 Team | | If it's true that Jimmy DiResta can make anything and John DiResta can make anything funny, as the press materials for the Long Island-born brothers' new HGTV weekly series, "Hammered with John and Jimmy DiResta," indicate, then it may be only a matter of time until their cylindrically shaped aquarium featuring a large hole for head insertion becomes the next lava lamp. Yes, in an effort to differentiate themselves from the usual how-to television fare, the DiResta brothers, who grew up in the Five Towns area and are graduates of Hewlett High School, have left the Mission chairs and ceramic napkin holders to other guys. Their half-hour series, premiering Saturday, combines humor with hard-core building techniques to create wildly inventive projects - they tackle fishing boats, dog houses, poker tables, fish tanks, go-carts and custom-made guitars and chess games, all with an innovative bent that's meant to entertain as well as instruct.... | |

| | | How to make your bedroom a sanctuary | | Posted Sunday, August 13, 2006 11:10:32 AM by Blog57 Team | | After revamping many homes on HGTV's ``Takeover My Makeover'' and other shows, designer Valerie Bickford, www.valeriebhome.com, has noticed a near-universal trend: The bedroom is neglected. ``Wonder why you don't have the romance? Or why you can't sleep?'' the designer asks. ``It's because we put ourselves last.'' Public rooms, such as the living room and kitchen, usually receive the most attention because they are what guests see most. The bedroom, Bickford says, should be a sanctuary. Her pointers on how to create one: Furniture: One of the most common mistakes, Bickford says, is to line the space with furniture. ``People have way too much furniture in their bedrooms,'' she says. Her mantra: ``Declutter!'' Edit furnishings down to a bed, an end table or two, an armoire or dresser, and a nice reading chair.... | |
