"Our mission is to organize the world's information," Emily White, Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) director of online sales and operations, told the E-Commerce Times. "In order to do that, we are always thinking about ways in which technology can improve upon existing ways of accessing information by exploring new areas, services and ideas that make information more actionable to users, advertisers and publishers," she explained. Heart-wrenching e-mails from soldiers in Iraq are scams
Posted Saturday, September 16, 2006 1:37:52 PM by Blog57 Team
In the past few days the Better Business Bureau has heard from numerous local folks who received e-mail letters and messages from senders claiming to be soldiers deployed to Iraq. There are a number of variations of the message. In the most common message the "soldier" claims to have found millions of U.S. dollars during a raid and wishes to transfer the money to the United States and then back to an orphanage/school in Iraq. The message is full of heart-wrenching details. It is also full of malarkey. It is a hoax, a fake. Unfortunately, we are seeing an increase in e-mail and phone scams from people attempting to pose as U.S. soldiers. Our sympathies may cloud our judgment, making this new flavor of scheme more successful, at least for the short term. So just how would these two e-mails go about ripping off their victim? Simple....
